First Professional Game Project!

#1 Post by Jinroh » Tue Mar 17, 2009 7:41 pm

Hooray I've finally made it to the...kinda big time.

Anyway. About let's see...a month ago. A friend of mine called me and said that his company does web development and their "web games guy" had too many projects.

So he called me and asked if I'd be interested in the contract. I agreed and he showed his boss my portfolio to make the whole thing a deal.

His boss liked my portfolio and comissioned me to make a game. Hooray!

So I spent 2 weeks making a game for the http://boyercandies.com company.

The game isn't up yet so I don't think I can talk about it in too much detail.

I made two games for them actually.

One is a simple puzzle and the other is a platform game. ^o^

I was the development team for a measly amount of money too. T_T It'll be worth it though when it's up on the website.

I had about 2 weeks to do the level design, art, programming, etc. of the game.

I'm a decent artist, but I'm terrible with level design I have no practice at all. :D

So that was definitely the most trying part of the whole ordeal because I had to make 10 levels that were a decent amount of fun and not too easy and not too hard. In the end though it turned out pretty decent. I've only beaten the platform game a few times, but I was going for the old NES challenging vibe with that one. ;)

If they don't put it up in like two weeks I'll sneak you guys the game. ^_^ It's pretty cool.

Once they have it up on the site you can play the games and they'll ship free candy to your house by the points you accumulate. O_O

Anyway.

Have a good day all! ^_^

THANK YOU BOTH!! ^_^ OMG! THANK YOU!! hehe.

Sorry I've not replied so quickly lost my job so I've been moving.

I get paid for the games tomorrow!! Yaaay! Finally!! So that'll be nice. So when I get home I'll post them since. -_^ I'll have the money. hehe.

Yes, three puzzle games and a sidescroller a la Mario. So it'll be fun to see how people like them. ^_^

On another note my friend Hugo Smits is coming out with a puzzle game for the Nintendo DSi you can find some info about it at http://goodbyegalaxygames.blogspot.com

You're welcome Hugo. ^o^

EDIT:
You can play the platform game here: http://jinrohdev.net23.net/CandyGame/ Let me know what you think!

Sorry to double post, but I didn't want to make a new topic as this one goes along with the old one. ^_^

Anyway, I got another game made for the same buyer. This one is titled:

Patty Peanut Buttercup's Boyer Bowling

Wow, that's a long title. But anyway the game is done in ActionScript 3.0 and all the art and everything was done by moi! ^_^

I'm pretty proud of how the title and scorecard screens turned out considering it was all arranged/drawn in MSPaint!

Anyway check it out at http://portfolio.jinrohdev.net23.net/BoyerBowling.swf and let me know what you think!

I'm also working on a much MUCH larger game for a solo release but I'm being all hush hush about it for now. I'll make a topic soon. ~_^

^_^ Thanks for your enthusiasm Aya. Sorry I don't have anything to show yet.

My Twitter is pretty busy with textual updates about the game. But still no media yet.

I can say that my friend who's got a Metal/Alternative Rock band is doing the music for me.

It'll be MIDIs so they won't actually be recording it, but the music will be top notch.

Art-wise I'm doing the in-game art and my artist friend, she's doing the other facets of the art department anything that requires traditional art. I've been putting a painstaking amount of effort into the animation to add as much detail as I can to the sprites.

Hope that can sate you curiosity for a little bit. ~_^
