I wrote this just this morning on a different forum while answering a question about a different puzzle while half-asleep - but hey! It's not wasted now! ;-)mickey_owl wrote:Hey guys it's driving me mad keep starting again, has anyone cracked it and if so can they tell me how to?please
head generally toward the target, look ahead the next few steps you plan to make and check - given that the hooks go out in a fixed sequence - whether you're going to get caught on any of them. Don't be afraid to make minor backtracks or detours to get out of the way of individual hooks.
I also found it immensely helpful to write the steps I'd successfully taken down, so when I made a mistake I could get back to the same place trivially. So if you get really really stuck, I can send you the ones I took.

Just adding some additional info here.
You should see how far the hooks extend. I believe that they extend for 3 hooks so even if you're in the direction of a hook going down, you may be able to avoid it as long as you're just out of reach.
And as Jake posted, the hooks go in a particular patter. I believe it's down, left, up, right, and then none. Also, of course, backtracking and taking detours helps, too.

Yep, that's what I've got too. My approach was basically to have that pattern written down on one card and my steps taken so far on another. When I got a few steps further, I'd stop, check which hooks were out, then check which directions I could safely go from my current position. So if the hooks are out to the left, and I want to go to my right, I'd know the next set of hooks would be going up, so I'd check the four or five spaces immediately down from the square to my right for a blue cultist, since all the blue ones hooked upwards. If there weren't any, I'd count down the hook list with my finger (next is right/yellow) I'd see where I'd want to go next from that square... and see if there were any yellow cultists to the left of that square, and so on. Once I had a few steps planned out I'd try it, and if I didn't die I'd note them down on my 'steps taken without dying so far' card. Then repeat the whole process.phoenixgirl wrote: I believe it's down, left, up, right, and then none.
I don't know if it's possible to go into much more detail without just giving out a solution to the puzzle - but if you're making some progress, you're probably doing the right thing - carry on 'til you've solved it! ;-)

Hmm, let's see. If you are making progress, then you're generally going in the correct direction. I would say go in the path where there are the least obstacles in the way. At one point, though, when you're approaching the exit, you might get stuck and there may seem to not be a way to get past that point (I felt that way for quite a while). I would just look for which way the hooks are going, see if there are two or more hooks which could catch you, and find a pattern if you end up looking like you're stuck in a certain spot. There is a way to eventually get past it. Just take your time and you should be able to get through it.
And no worries-this took me about 30 minutes to solve the puzzle. lol
