Becoming a Hero

In the beginning of April, a small bird’s nest was built on the very top of the clock tower. Now, there are two baby blue jays in the nest, twittering at the top of their tiny lungs as their mother dangled a worm about an inch above their open mouths. Both the two birds and their mother are completely unaware that the clock tower upon which they built their nest belongs to the most prestigious college on the entire continent. Below them, students are pacing back and forth. Near the pristine lake, a beautiful and talented student named Brittney sat, her pink billowing dress fanning out before her, her luminous blond hair attracting the eye of many of the college males, both professors and students alike. At the training ground, the mother and daughter team of Rose and Orchard were demonstrating the proper use of charms in battle to many young, wide eyed students that clung to their every word.

It is this beautiful spring that Michiko observes and wishes to partake in. She would like nothing more than to try her luck in a mock battle of magic against Orchard, who she had managed to best before but was not sure that she could do again. She would like to converse with Brittney as they made eyes at all the cute boys that were passing by. Michiko eyes rose from the lake to the top of the clock tower, where the baby blue jays, content after being fed, nestled against their mother. She would like to be free from her confinements in this classroom, free to hone her battle skills in the dungeon, where she would take her sword and cut down even the mightiest of monsters. It would be nothing to her, because she has taken battle lessons from the master Shane, because she has the experience from battling monsters before in the dungeon within the slums.

She sighed, making sure to keep it under her breath as to not attract the attentions of her strict instructor. It was good to dream, but Michiko knew now that her life involved learning in the classroom, or socializing with Carmen, or praying at the church. Her life now involved what was good, and proper, for the future queen to be associated with. This meant less dungeon delving, and more lessons on how to be graceful. She pulled her glaze from the freshness of spring as viewed through the glass window and allowed it to fall on the dreariness of the dimly illuminated and sparsely decorated classroom. The other students either had their heads in their hands, pretending as if they heard the monotonous tone of the professor as they waited for the bell to ring, or scribbling down notes veraciously, or sleeping with their heads on their arms, which muffled the snoring. Michiko turned her attention from the students to the papers on her desk. Written on those papers were not notes from the notes on the Jewel wars, but strategies and calculations on how she thought the war could have been won, when instead her country Illusia admitted defeat. For as she was gifted with brilliant intellect and trained in military tactics, she knew where her country Illusia made their errors in calculations, and she dreamed of leading her country to victory with winning strategies and envisioned riding at the head of her army, her sword thrust into the air as they chanted her name…

“Michiko, are you paying attentionâ€

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. I thought that it might have been a little too long, personally.
