I am just beginning the demo, and I have a suspicion. Is a certain piece of modern slang a significant clue to "the truth about Caspian and Cassidy"?

There's no way you're far enough to actually have the whole picture yet. Certain assumptions are intentionally misleading... and I can't say any more than that.
