Patch 1.3.23.4 - 2015 October

#1 Postby Spiky Caterpillar » Mon Oct 26, 2015 3:36 am

Video-related fixes:
* Game no longer locks up on start on El Capitan. (If you have El Capitan, force-quitting the blurry yellow Pygame icon in the Dock will enable the game to start normally so you can then update it - for some reason it seems to be busywaiting forever trying to restore windows or something.)
* The game should now revert to windowed mode properly if it crashes when trying to switch to fullscreen (seen on some Macs).
* Fixed a crash trying to start the game on Linux machines that don't have 32-bit libXmu.

Localization:
* Improved handling of non-ASCII usernames in Windows. If you've gotten unicode-related crashes in the past and have a non-ascii username, it's worth taking another look.
* No longer crash if the save directory is unreadable.
* No longer crashes when it encounters extra text tags. This works around a crash in the Russian translation caused by an extra {/i}.
* Now uses strings instead of keysyms for title screen hotkeys. (This fixes a bug where Dvorak MacOS installs would react to keys based on their positions on a qwerty keyboard instead of the actually configured key.)

I bought the game back in 2013-12-24. Is there a way to download the new build? The codes to download it expired from BMT Micro Orders back on January 24, 2014. I still have the original e-mail and also own the game on steam... I think you're on my friends list, actually.

In general as long as you have the game installed you can download fresh patches with your license key - however, if you also have the game installed on Steam it may prevent you from updating the non-steam version (because we have to disable the updater for Steam, since steam auto-updates)

So if you have it on Steam it'll automatically be the latest version.

So it'll update through the program itself, I don't need to download a new version of the installer?

I only ask because my Laptop doesn't have Steam on it... it's not powerful enough for most of my games, being an old WinXP build.

Go to the Preferences menu and look for Check For Updates. In most cases (provided decent network connection and a license key) it can patch up from inside the program.

Long Live The Queen for Mac version 1.3.17 does not have Check For Updates in the Preferences. How can I get the update?

Every version has it unless you have been playing the Steam version on the same computer, which causes the update button to be removed because the Steam version has to be updated through Steam.

I got it through Humble Bundle. Perhaps it's the Steam version, even though I never activated the Steam license that came with it, opting for the download version instead. Would that do it?

Ah, okay! I see the issue now. Humble does not allow us to include the updater on their version because the updater requires a license key to contact the server. Sorry, I keep forgetting about humble since most people just take the Steam key.

If you are not a Steam user, you'll need to redownload it again from the Humble site after we get a new build uploaded there. However, I can't make a new build for them at the moment because Spiky is on vacation right now.

Not much has been changed, though, so if the game is currently running on your computer it shouldn't be urgent to update.

Well there we go.

It runs, but only after force quitting the 'blurry yellow Pygame icon'.

I'll wait. It's not urgent, I was just going through a massive catalog of games I had acquired over the years, figuring out which ones to keep. I like the style of this game, so I'm keeping it, but I have SO MANY OTHER games to go through.

I've talked to the Humble people and there should be fresh uploads available now.
