no death screens?

I upgraded to version 1.1 through the preferences menu, but I'm still not getting the death images. What's up?
obvious questions:
Are you sure your upgrade went through successfully? What version does it say it is when you're on the updater screen?
Are you checking spots where you actually die? What did you test? When you go to the Checklist off the main menu, is there a Deaths button?
