Thanks! By going back to a save from my 20th birthday and then saving before each time I waited tables at the inn and only accepting maximum tips, I was able to squeeze in one more expert-level class before the summer break and get the ending. Nothing left to do now but Full-time Student, Bride, and...

Assistant dressmaker? ASSISTANT DRESSMAKER???

This was my third attempt at the Strategist ending. The first time I got Street Dancer. The second time I got Waitress. The third time ... ARGH!! What am I doing wrong? Each time, I easily exceeded the "official requirements" for Mind and Weapon skill. And this time I actually kept a tally of every ...

a friendly bug -- or was it my charm?

I was going for the martial artist ending just now, and when I started the expert-level fighting class I found that instead of the 90 gold per class listed, it was still just charging me 60 bucks, the same as the advanced level. That's probably the only thing that let me afford enough classes to get...

I really like the way friendship mechanics are implemented. I'd be interested in seeing how a similar system could be adapted to a game that really told a story and developed relationships with the friends rather than just using them to determine your stat growth.

How did I miss this post? I thought no one had replied, sorry. I actually kind of like having one super-retro skillset -- with a retro-femme rival character to go along with it -- for those who don't want to make their heroines ninjas or knights or tycoons. I really like your handicrafts suggestion....

silly question about skill classification

This is the most trivial and nitpicky question ever, but it is tormenting me. I'm designing a life-sim in which different skills are placed together in groups of three. Skills in the same group have the same gameplay mechanic (basically a bunch of different minigames, not all of which are designed y...

If you don't mind my asking, how did you cope with this as an indie designer? Were you able to attract investment money, or was it something you were able to get off the ground just by doing absolutely everything yourself?

Kind of a poll: game length and replayability

I'm just in the vague dreaming stage of getting into game-making. But I'm curious about how players view game length and replayability. The game I'm envisioning is similar to Cute Knight in style and story, although with a different gameplay mechanic. There are many story paths, and you're supposed ...

requires Direct X? For what??

I'm having trouble with my video card, so I had to turn off Direct X, which of course means I can't play most of my games. I remembered playing the Cute Knight demo, though, and thought it'd be a fun way to fill the time. But apparently Cute Knight requires DirectX! No joy for me! What for? From wha...
